About Markdown ↔ HTML

The Markdown converter turns Markdown into HTML and HTML back into Markdown, entirely in your browser. Use it to turn blog drafts, READMEs, or documentation source into HTML, or to bring existing HTML back into an editable Markdown form. Supported syntax covers ATX headings (#–######), emphasis (bold, italic, strikethrough, inline code), links and images, autolinks, unordered/ordered lists nested with 2-space indentation, GFM task list checkboxes, blockquotes, fenced and 4-space indented code blocks, GFM tables with left/center/right alignment, and horizontal rules. HTML→Markdown parses the DOM and handles the same core elements: headings, paragraphs, emphasis, links, images, lists, blockquotes, and tables. Safety comes first: any raw HTML written inside your Markdown (such as <script> tags) is never executed — it is always escaped and shown as plain text. Link and image URLs are checked too, and dangerous schemes like javascript: or data: are rejected and rendered as plain text instead of a live link. Everything runs client-side; nothing you type is sent to toco.tools's servers.

How to use

  1. Choose a direction: Markdown → HTML or HTML → Markdown
  2. Paste your text on the left
  3. Check the preview or source on the right, then copy it

FAQ

What is Markdown?

A lightweight markup language for headings, lists, and links that is often converted to HTML.

What happens if I write raw HTML tags in my Markdown?

For safety, raw HTML tags (like <script>) are never parsed or executed — they are always escaped and shown as literal text. Use the equivalent Markdown syntax (headings, emphasis, etc.) instead.

Is uploaded data sent externally?

No. All processing runs in your browser; nothing is sent to toco.tools servers.

Are GFM tables and task lists supported?

Yes. Tables with left/center/right alignment and task lists (- [ ] / - [x], rendered as checkboxes) are supported.

Does it support every CommonMark feature?

It implements a practical subset covering everyday writing — headings, emphasis, links, images, lists, blockquotes, code blocks, GFM tables, and task lists. Some advanced features like footnotes or definition lists are not supported.
