Closeness is ranked by perceptual colour distance (OKLab). Anything short of an exact match is only the nearest name — it will look slightly different from your input.

Sobre Color Name Finder

Color Name Finder maps HEX/RGB values to the nearest named color across two systems: the 148 CSS named colors (red, cornflowerblue, ...) and Japanese traditional colors (茜色 Akane-iro, 藍色 Ai-iro, 山吹色 Yamabuki-iro, and more — 69 colors with kanji, hiragana reading, and romanization). Many people search by color name in Japanese ("茜色 カラーコード", "藍色 RGB"), and most international color-name tools don't cover this at all — that's the gap toco.tools fills. Enter a color and it's ranked against CSS and/or Japanese traditional names using perceptual distance in OKLab space. An "exact match" badge only appears for identical hex values; otherwise it's simply the closest available name and will look slightly different from your input. The reverse "search by name" mode matches kanji (藍), reading (あかね), or English (azure) substrings. Perceptual closeness is a numeric approximation — it can't capture the exact historical definition of a traditional color or the natural variation of the dyes it was named after. For an authoritative color reference, consult the original sources or an official color guide.

Como usar

  1. In "Colour → Name" enter a color code, or in "Name → Colour" type kanji, reading, or English
  2. Filter by group (all / CSS / Japanese traditional)
  3. Copy the name or HEX code

Perguntas frequentes

What is Color Name Finder?

A tool that finds the nearest CSS or Japanese traditional color name for a given color, and can also search the other way — from name to color.

How many Japanese traditional colors are included?

69 colors, including Akane-iro (茜色), Ai-iro (藍色), and Yamabuki-iro (山吹色) — each with kanji, hiragana reading, and romanization.

If it's not an exact match, is the name still accurate?

No — without the exact-match badge, it's just the closest available name, and the actual color will differ slightly. Ranking uses perceptual distance (OKLab) rather than raw RGB difference for more natural results, but it never implies an exact match.

How do I search by name instead of color?

Switch to "Name → Colour" mode and type kanji (e.g. 藍), a hiragana reading (e.g. あかね), or English (e.g. azure). Matching is substring-based.

Is my input sent anywhere?

No. All matching runs locally in your browser; nothing is sent to toco.tools servers.
