About Japan Unemployment Benefit Calculator

Japan’s unemployment basic benefit supports insured workers who are willing and able to work and actively seeking employment. This calculator covers general insured workers aged 15–64, using the fixed August 1, 2026 formula to estimate daily benefit, a 28-day illustration, prescribed days and the total if all days are paid. Voluntary resignation and qualifying company-related separation have different recent-month requirements, prescribed days and benefit restrictions. Enter the total countable insured period separately from qualifying months in the last one or two years. The timeline distinguishes the seven-day waiting period, restriction, certification and transfer. This is not an eligibility decision. Justified resignations, contract non-renewals, recognized employment difficulties, serious-misconduct dismissal and ages 65+ follow separate rules. Annual rate changes and work income are not included. Inputs stay in your browser and are not saved or sent.

How to use

FAQ

Does the separation reason change the daily rate?

For the same age and wages, the daily-rate formula is the same. Recent qualifying months, prescribed benefit days and benefit restrictions differ.

Will the payment arrive seven days after leaving work?

No. The seven-day waiting period counts unemployment days after the application. Any restriction follows, and payment occurs after unemployment certification.

Should I use gross or take-home pay?

Use gross wages before deductions. Normally use the last six months, including overtime and commuting allowances and excluding bonuses.

Is the total guaranteed?

It assumes all prescribed days are paid at the same daily rate. Re-employment, work, certification, the entitlement window and annual revisions can change the actual payment. Confirm the individual treatment with Hello Work.
