Acerca de BMI Calculator

BMI (Body Mass Index) is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared — a simple, widely used proxy for body fat. Classification thresholds vary by region: the Japan Society for the Study of Obesity (JASSO) treats BMI 25+ as “obese,” while the WHO international standard treats 25–30 as “overweight” and reserves “obese” for 30+. This tool computes BMI from height and weight and lets you switch between the JASSO and WHO classification labels for the same numeric result. BMI is a simple ratio — it doesn't account for muscle mass, body fat percentage, or frame size, so muscular individuals (e.g. athletes) can be classified higher than their actual body fat would suggest. This tool is not medical advice; consult a doctor for health decisions.

Preguntas frecuentes

What's the difference between the Japan and WHO standards?

The BMI formula is identical; only the labeling differs — for example, 25–30 is “Obesity grade 1” under JASSO but “Overweight” under WHO.

Does BMI overestimate body fat for muscular people?

Yes. Since BMI only uses height and weight, someone with high muscle mass can show a higher BMI despite low body fat.

Is my height and weight sent anywhere?

No. All calculation runs in your browser; nothing is sent to toco.tools servers.
